It fixed mine. Any suggestions as all worked in Windows 7. Both optical drives are on the secondary ide channel. I also have a laptop that is running XP Pro SP 3 with only 1 hard drive and 1 optical drive that has never had this problem.

Oddly when I start the recovery disc in windows it starts up and shows choice to recover at restart, but after restart is where it fails to launch. The drive appears in my computer and my other DVD reader works OK. it literally showed up fine this morning, then disappeared an hour later, after working fine for weeks. The "Fix-It" tool worked once.

Eject won't work and the Drive's lamp remains on. I'm gonna try to swap out CD ROMS from another computer but after that I'm fresh out of ideas for the moment.
