External Hard Drive Dilema

Ya - a pro of both solutions.  Cloud backup solutions do not have an up-front cost; they are instead "paid monthly".  This can run from $2-$5, or a little more, per It seems to affect only certain models. I don't plan on lugging it around anyway. In Disk management the HDD shows up as healthy, but with no file system.Any ideas?

They have proven to be very reliable as I don’t think one drive has gone bad on me. If you aren't moving it or unplugging it why would it wear out?!!? So far only brands being sold here are WD and SG. I plug the same external hard drive to my Windows notebook and use VLC to play these grayed-out .mkv files WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
