Reply julie January 25, 2017 at 6:57 am i have followed all the instructions and see my ATA drive in devmng only but it does not show partitions. I have 4 USB slots and I have tried them all with the same results. Remember, you cannot service a hard drive unless you are working in a clean room. unit lights up, no whirl, device doesn't show up in control panel, management.

It was defaulting to a quick scan i was heartbroken. I then reinstalled it into the file server and Presto! Pick a letter for your drive and you should be good to go. Help is much appreciated.

Some heavy-duty removable hard drives may even have to be plugged in with a separate power cable before they’ll work. If the drive is not showing up in Disk Management or Disk Utility at all, you have some other type of problem. any suggestions? I've used this technique on many computers throughout the last fifteen years as "resident expert" and saved virtually all important data.
