External HardDrive Freezing Computer - HELP

As I start my computer, it freezes and keeps freezing with a minute long "normal" period between the freezes. it says "disk management could not complete this operation" but when i take out the portable HDD it lists my disks...... ?? I've seen this 4-5 times and it's never good, raw data recovery is not fun by any means .. Chkdsk will repair the disk sectors, but if the data within has been damaged, it may not be fixed.

I guess the moral of the story is, that you don't want to have two power consuming devices plugged into the front ports. I wasn't really in the mood to do a full power supply change so I thought that was stupid. No, create an account now. Why is copying a shuffled list much slower?

Also, if you have no burning software such as Nero or Ashampoo, or Roxio or NTI you could download and install CDBurnerXP http://cdburnerxp.se/en/home which is also freeware. EDIT: Just tried this FixMBR program, it doesn't work for me. It will let me change the drive letter of C, but not of the other disk. If the drive is shown in Disk Management window, try opening it there and move all your files out of the drive, if you get it opened.

Suggest you restore the sytem to a point back in time where you think there was no problem. The screenshot does not show anything obviously wrong. So if me, I would swap in a known good power supply while troubleshooting (or have yours professionally tested).
