Power Supply Slowing Down Computer

My 2TB HDD is now running very slow, it takes much longer to navigate through files, often freezing windows explorer when I try to simply open a folder. What happened? If you are lagging, I don't think it is related to the PSU, but some of the wires might not be 100% in either. It should default to the i486 version.
