What brand of CD/DVD writer do you have on your system? the guys on alt.comp.freeware like clean installers. just don't bother buying 16x rated media, is the simplest way to restrict speed. I don't think there's any 98 SATA support provided by microsoft. have you tried loading the drivers from "autoexec.bat" + config.sys(?)... We are not interested in dvd's, just making mp3 from old cd's to then transfer to a creative usb player (or something like that)...

My 98 box has an HP CD writer and the accompanyuing software is very good. However if you can find 98 nvidia support for your chipset it may provide SATA support.The config.sys and autoexec.bat modifications mentioned by mavis007 might work in safe mode or if you OpenGL Problem. For anyone who deals with CD-based programs ?it is a MUST.
