If you are having problems recording a CD or if you wish to do other things during a burn, such as browsing the web, you should choose a lower burn speed. On other occasions it seems to cut one or other of the songs off at the overlap point rather than overlapping. This used to be in the iTunes Advanced preferences, but it was too easy to overlook.
